Living Dead in Dallas

This book was a very good one, I’d say even better than the last so I’m hoping as I continue this series it will get even more intense and suspenseful. It’s as if it cut off one part of the story until the next part was done. In my opinion it was separated into three parts.

Some questions that I have resemble my last response questions. Like who killed Lafayette?! It literally drove me crazy that she let that mystery stew until the end of the book when it was finally answered, even though he was killed literally in the 20 pages. It ended up being some of the towns folk who we’re a little bit too…exhilarated in their activities? It was a surprising turn of events for sure. Another question I had was why was Eric so willing to help Sookie? Of course we know why Bill does, because he loves her, but Eric doesn’t seem capable of that type of emotion. He seems more to be a slave to his lust than anything. I’m hoping to get a better read on his character in the books to follow. It’s a curiosity of mine.

This book ended up being slightly predictable, which was sometimes a good thing,  other times not so much. We all knew that Sookie going to the fellowship was a bad idea and that she was going to be captured, then rescued. This is how many books turn out. Obviously with this being a series, they can’t have something really bad happen to Sookie now can they? They obviously can’t kill off the main character in the second book. I however did not see this sex club to be made up of just humans. Of course there are some people who are sick in the mind and get carried away with their own sexual adventures but I still suspected there would be a vampire among the group. It took me by surprise. Shows that maybe I’m pretty prejudice.

I’m commenting on the growth of Eric and Bills characters. Eric has begun to grow on me I must admit, with him helping Sookie and actually going to Dallas to protect what’s his, it shows he still carries some emotion from his human years. Bill is also getting more depth to him. You get to see into more of his past at the end of the book and also his feelings on being a vampire in Dallas. He craves his own kind. That’s something Sookie will have to deal with on her own.

I’m making a text to television connection. This is something I have yet to do. The character of Eric really reminds me of Damon Salvatore from the Vampire Diaries. At the beginning of the show, Damon was void of emotion. He was a bad boy and didn’t care about anything. Eric is shown the same way. But as the show and the book progress, both characters begin to show some emotion and appear more human at times. Also, both Elena and Sookie seem to have a weak side for bad boys.

Venting Session

Love is such a powerful thing. But love can be so irrevocably blind. Abusive realtionships can be of two descents; emotional & physical. Some believe that physical is the worst, but emotional is just as scarring as the physical. People no longer listen to the ones they love. They are so wrapped up in the other person. "The first cut is the deepest", many people believe this, it has even been used in songs. I believe in this as well. It's one of the hardest things to do, to either break up with your first love or to be let go by your first love. Especially if they are considered more than one first. Comfort can also be a factor in this. If you have been with this significant other for a long period of time, it makes things even harder because you are so comfortable in their presence. Your lives are so tied together, in friends, family, and schedules. Something that people need to consider is, is it truly worth it? If this person is no longer putting in the effort you need or giving you the attention you need, why stick around because of the comfort? I've heard that "It's not that easy", but it truly is. It gives you the chance to find happiness with someone else who will take the time to appreciate you. No one deserves emotional abuse, it will damage you emotionally and can seriously kill your self-esteem. It will make you think that you don't deserve better or that you won't find better and that is never true. So ladies, truly think about whether these types of guys are for you. Take the time to find a man who will always appreciate you and not give up when he knows you'll never leave. Every woman deserves so much better.

I believe this to be true. Would anyone rather not risk their heart for love? Yes it can be broken, but it can be mended. Love is one of the most powerful things on this earth. We as human beings need to cherish this treasure when we find it. Personally, I would risk everything for love. For that companionship, loyalty, belonging and trust. Where would we be as humans without love? Not even just romantic love, but family love and friendship love. We all need some sort of love to continue on. When you find true love, it will never fail you. xoxo

Reading Reflection #7

Living Dead in Dallas

I’ve just recently started this book. It’s the next of the True Blood series and it’s going pretty well. I’ve even had to take it into my band class because I just couldn’t put it down. I’ve had quite a few questions, but only some are main questions that refer mostly to the entire book and won’t be answered until the end.

My very first question was who killed Lafayette? It happened in the beginning of the story and it has yet to be answered. I actually for once have no ideas on who it could be. He wasn’t completely associated with vampires so I’m for once clueless. I hope to have this answered soon. I also wondered was a maenad was and what she wanted with Eric? Maenads are a creature of Greek mythology and were the female followers of Dionysus and members of the god’s retinue. They have been known through myths to devour men and children in frenzy. I have yet to find out what she wanted from Eric, but hopefully this will also be answered. I wondered what they wanted Sookie for in Texas and this was answered quickly. They needed a mind reader to help them find their “brother” Farrell who had disappeared from the “nest”. The fellowship intrigues me. I’ve often wondered through the story why they have such a strong hatred for vampires and why they would go to such extremes to have them killed. I can’t pretend I’m able to think like a fanatic so I’m hoping a character will shed some light for me.

This book isn’t as easy to predict as the first one, though the big scenes have been the most predictable. In the middle of this story, Sookie and Hugo, both vampire lovers, are masquerading as boyfriend and girlfriend so they may enter the fellowship. Before they even entered, Sookie was having thoughts of how she didn’t trust Hugo very much. This should have set off an alarm in Sookie’s head. The author showed lots of foreshadowing before this scene. Every time Sookie read Hugo’s mind, it only projected one thing, confidence or arrogance or distaste for Sookie. This made it obvious that he was a traitor and not to be trusted. It almost got Sookie killed. A Lesson from this would be to always trust your instincts from the beginning.

I must continue to comment on the growth of Sookie’s character. The amount of hardship she is willing to endure is incredible. Through the being poisoned by the maenad, to using her mind reading power to help out the unknown vampires, to almost being killed in the basement of the fellowship. I didn’t like her at the beginning for sure, she seemed too innocent, but she has grown for sure and so has my opinion of her. I’d also like to comment on the author’s creation of the fellowship. Did she ever have me freaked out by these characters, even when they were all smiles. I think that makes them even more eerie. They for sure gave me the chills during my reading.

I didn’t make many connections, but one I did make was the fellowship. In every single vampire book you will ever read, there are always some sort of group that is out to destroy them. For example in the Carpathian series, it’s an entire family that hunts them. They even kill them in the traditional way of beheading, using garlic and a stake through the heart. The fellowship reminded me of these other factions and they both have the same eerie level.

This is a beautiful song from the movie Eclipse from the Twilight series. I'm a huge romantic so of course this song got me going. It truly makes you think about how big of an impact love can have on your life. My belief in love rules most of my senses so dont blame yourself if you aren't as into it as I am!
