Writing Perspective: Writing twitter fiction was an interesting experience. It for sure brought a new perspective to some of my writing. I found that writing the shorter stories wasn’t as difficult as I thought beforehand; I am a person who generally writes longer stories, essays, etc., but I needed a challenge. Therefore I found that to be a real success of mine when they actually turned out the way I wanted them to. Also some of my imagery came out way better than I had previously thought they would be and I was very proud of that success. I had a couple frustrations for sure, such as trying to keep some character dialogue in the story with the proper punctuation but still keep it under the 140 character limit, especially when it was the VSS stories. Another one was attempting to write when the inspiration was just not there. There were a couple stories I didn’t like just because I had written them so I had done something that day. I learnt that the story truly writes itself and if that story isn’t in my head, I can’t force myself to try to write it. I’ll always end up redoing it because I don’t like how it turns out.

Reading Perspective: I read Alina Simone’s Twitter fiction. The story was called Anatomy of a Break Up. She wrote a story about a man who thought he was in love but realized he needed to find himself first. It’s true what they say, “You need to love yourself before you can love another”. I also read it because let’s face it, there was a bit of romance in it and I can never resist that. It felt strange to be reading twitter and not realize you we’re actually on twitter, if that makes any sense. If the author does it right, they can bring you right into the story and can make you forget you’re even reading a twitter feed. Alina Simone accomplished this for me. The only thing that surprised me was the amount of character depth she was able to give to Joe; she brought me right into his subconscious. It had me really loving his character.

About Twitter: This assignment did change my perspective on twitter but only by a little, I still don’t generally like it. My opinion is that it’s tolerable now and that it does have some good use for it. The twitter fiction is probably one of the only things I like about it, it would be one reason to keep my twitter; to continue writing and reading others writing. I don’t much get the point of using it besides that, it’s just another facebook with fewer words.  The only other use I would have personally for twitter would be to keep tabs on my favorite authors and bands, just to see what their newest projects are or when something new is coming out from them.
